Tin Rattle at the MCG

For Indigenous Round this weekend, Hawthorn Football Club continued to support The Rioli Fund for Aboriginal Health as we strive to raise funds which help Indigenous children become the healthy adults. All money raised by the Rioli Fund went towards Indigenous health research at the Menzies School of Health Research.

Thanks to all Hawks and Demons fans who donated gold coins to the tin rattlers we appreciate your support.

Menzies are Australia’s leaders in Indigenous health research and their researchers are discovering ways to ‘close the gap’ in Indigenous life expectancy and ensure that the Indigenous kids of today become the healthy adults of tomorrow.

It’s a sad fact that young Indigenous people are more likely to suffer from diseases such as pneumonia and that only one in five children in remote indigenous communities has normal hearing because of severe ear infections.

Young Indigenous children are more likely to be hospitalised than non-indigenous kids, and seven out of every 10 Indigenous children can expect to have scabies and skin sores in the first year of their life.

Poor health and poor education are strongly linked. A child suffering from poor nutrition or multiple ear infections will have poor concentration and learning ability which can seriously affect the way they live their lives into the future.

You can really make a difference by donating to the Rioli Fund, as every cent of the Rioli Fund’s proceeds go directly to Menzies School of Health Research for research into child health and mental health.

Hawk Star Cuts Dreads for Charity

The lopping of Chance Bateman's locks raised an amazing $4,500 for the Rioli Fund.  A big thank you to Chance Bateman, Barbara and Andrew Hardeman, Michael Greaves from Havington's Hair and Ricoh who also donated a colour printer and camera to the fund.

Thank you to everyone who bid on the auction and supported this exciting event.

The Rioli Fund for Aboriginal Health welcomes the Hawthorn Football Club as the funds newest Community Partner.

Speaking of the newly formed partnership between Hawthorn FC and the Rioli Fund, Mr Dean Rioli said "I am extremely excited to be working with the Hawthorn Football Club, and in particular with the six Indigenous boys on their list.  I have met with the players and each of them has expressed their interest in supporting the fund and the work we are doing, as they too know of the appalling health situation faced by Indigenous Australians."
